I came across this article randomly on the internet on (2rd of March 2021, 11:45), first thing that came to my mind while I was reading the first and second paragraph, was the popular naija (bend-down-select/okrira). Bend-Down-Select is literally a term used to describe thrift markets in Nigeria which has been in existence for as long as I know. I like to see bend-down-select as the process and okrika as the product, the clothes being sold which is called — Okrika are spread on the ground for passerby or folks coming to shop. By a glance they see the clothes in variety and then bend down to select their choice 😂.

I reached out to my friend Yadi to ask what Okrika actually means then she gave me a very detailed answer... — Okrika is a tribe in Rivers state. How it evolved to being used to describe the second hand clothing may be because a lot of whites settled in those parts of country and their used clothings were given to the tribesmen who saw these clothings as the very best.

After she shared this with me. I became more excited to write this post, I am going to be visiting Yaba later in the month to chat with an Okrika seller to get more insight on how they get their clothes and sell them to people and post the second part of this article.
